Artist Statement
I carefully cut the fabric into a square then folded it in half to create a bandana to match
the dress on my doll. Learning to hand sew at the age of 10, I began designing wardrobes for my
dolls. Fast forward after high school graduation, I studied fashion design at FIDM and had to
learn to draw.It was hard, as a beginner in drawing and watercolor, I struggled to
achieve the natural look of the human fashion figure. Fast forward again, many years later and I
majored in illustration at Cal State Long Beach. The projects I created are the bulk of my
portfolio. I learned many drawing techniques and used a variety of media such as acrylics and
oils. I explored sculpture and metal work also.
The connecting themes in my work are the human body, fashion, religion and fantasy
creatures and subjects. I strive to create work that fulfills my need to express my point of beauty
and aesthetics. My experiences and future hopes are all inspirations for my work.
And although I can say with humble pride that I have come a long way, I also acknowledge that I
still have a long way to go to fulfill my artistic goals. I look forward to creating art that conveys
my emotions, and opinions as life without art can be detrimental to my soul.
